This is the
VIII edition of JPII Games, the marathon-pilgrimage that includes the
Peace Race from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, and a number of other sporting
events. JPII Games will be held from
21 – 25
October 2011.
These dates were chosen because the liturgical feast of the Blessed John Paul II
falls on 22 October.
For organizers ORP, an activity of the Vicariate of Rome, Department of the Holy See, and the Centro Sportivo Italiano, JPII Games is an important event that evangelizes through the instrument of pilgrimages and promotes values that exalt the dignity of man and his being a creature of God.
In
addition, ORP and CSI believe that combining a pilgrimage with sports is a winning
formula to facilitate a dialogue among people and to provide a new opportunity
for those who live in the Holy Land – the real protagonists of this sporting
event for peace.
JPII Games is a pilgrimage to the Holy Land during in which it’s possible to take part in a non-competitive race that unites the 12 km separating Bethlehem from Jerusalem, and that for the last 7 years has been run by pilgrims, athletes and ordinary people. This year a five-on-five soccer game between Israelis, Palestinians and Italians will be held near the Bethlehem checkpoint.
